Dashboard lights aren’t something any driver wants to see remain lit after starting the car, but it happens. Fortunately, identifying common dashboard lights is fairly straightforward, especially if your vehicle is in good condition. Check out these dashboard lights and their meanings from us here at Pollard Used Cars of Amarillo!
- TPMS – Shaped by a flat tire with an exclamation point inside, this indicator light means the Tire Pressure Monitoring System has sensed a tire with too low air pressure. Check the tire pressure and ensure they’re properly inflated. If the light remains on, there could be a problem with one of the sensors. Contact your dealership service department for information on how to fix the problem.
- Door Ajar – Arguably the dashboard light most people are familiar with, this light indicates that there’s a door that isn’t fully shut. Exit the vehicle and open and reclose all of the doors. If the light remains on, try the hood and trunk as well. Leaving the light on for too long could be the cause for a dead battery.
- Oil Pressure Warning – This light looks like an old tea kettle. It means there’s a lack of oil pressure. Stop the vehicle and check the oil level and pressure. It would be wise to contact a dealership service department as well.
