Fuel Efficiency Tips

The summer heat is in full swing which means gas prices are higher than during any other time of the year. Here are some helpful fuel efficiency tips from us here at Pollard Used Cars of Amarillo!

Plan Ahead

Planning your route to hit multiple stops at once can cut down on the amount of fuel you use on a day-to-day basis. Try to run multiple errands in one go rather than heading into town, then back home.

Maintain Your Vehicle

A properly maintained vehicle will reward its driver at the pump. Keeping up with routine maintenance, such as oil changes and tune ups, will ultimately increase engine performance and efficiency. Have your vehicle inspected prior to taking a long road trip. It could save you some trouble on your journey.

In addition to routine maintenance, make sure your tires are filled to the manufacturer-suggested pressure. Properly inflated tires optimize fuel economy and traction while reducing the amount of rolling resistance your vehicle encounters. Remember to check your tire pressure frequently!

Avoid Rush Hour

No matter what you do, try to avoid rush hour at all costs. Rush hour generally means long lines of slow-moving or stand-stiff traffic. Idling on the highway with nowhere to go will really eat into your fuel budget. If possible, leave half an hour early or late to save money at the pump.
